Man WANTED in Lexington for Robbing Palmetto Trust Federal Credit Union

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are seeking help from citizens in identifying the man who tried to rob a Palmetto Trust Federal Credit Union branch at 1724 Bush River Road in the St. Andrews community at about 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, June 9.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the man, who was armed with a handgun, tried to follow the credit union manager into the credit union after she unlocked a door in order to open the financial institution for business on Thursday.

The credit union manager told detectives that the man, who was black, was about 5-foot-6 and weighed about 220 pounds, Metts said. The man was wearing a black hat, white T-shirt, dark shorts, with long pants underneath the shorts, and a black backpack.

The man ran away from the credit union and fled in a white or silver sedan, possibly a Dodge Neon, that had a Georgia license plate, Metts said.

The Sheriff’s Department on Thursday released two surveillance camera photographs of the man who tried to rob the credit union, Metts said.

Metts asked anyone with information about the man or the attempted robbery to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
