Traffic Stop Leads to Cocaine Bust in Charleston

On Thursday at around 1:54 p.m., a Charleston County Sheriff’s K-9 Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a 2012 Dodge Charger on Main road John’s Island for a traffic violation. Upon approach of the vehicle the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. The driver of the vehicle Kemone Ford of Savannah Highway in Ravenel, had a beer cap on his lap but stated to the deputy that there was an open beer in the backseat. A check revealed a beer by the feet of the back seat passenger. Ford claimed ownership of the beer.

After the deputy had Ford step out of the vehicle, the front seat passenger identified as Hakeem Collins of Savannah Hwy in Adams Run, was seen moving around in the seat of the car and was asked to exit the vehicle. As he exited a plastic baggy dropped to the ground from the leg of Collins’ shorts. The off-white substance in the baggie field tested presumptive for cocaine base with a total weight of 16.8 grams with an estimated street value of $1,680.00

Collins was arrested and charged with trafficking Cocaine Base and transported to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on the charge, Ford was issued a courtesy summons for Open Container violation.

Bond Hearing for Collins was scheduled for 10 a.m. today.
