Friends Of The NRA Honors Deputy
Mid-Carolina Friends of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Committee on Saturday, May 8 honored Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Lt. William S. “Bill” Wright for the support that Wright provides to NRA members.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Wright, 50, of West Columbia, received the 2010 Herron Award during the annual awards dinner and fund raiser that the Mid-Carolina Friends of the NRA Committee conducted at the Radisson Hotel Columbia and Conference Center at 2100 Bush River Road in the St. Andrews community. Wright supervises the Sheriff’s Department Training Division. Metts hired Wright on May 22, 1989.
Mid-Carolina Friends of the NRA Committee recognized Wright for his “steadfast support and constant service,” Metts said. The committee also honored Wright for his many years of service in handling security at Friends of the NRA events.
“As a staunch supporter of our constitutional right to bear arms, I am very pleased that the Mid-Carolina Friends of the NRA Committee honored Bill,” Metts said. “In supervising our agency’s training, Bill stresses the importance of ensuring that deputies can fire their duty weapons in a safe and effective manner.”
Wright regularly teaches a concealed weapons permit class for citizens, Metts said. The Sheriff’s Department hosts the class, which reflects the agency’s mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.
