Arthur State Bank Robber Charged by Greenville Sheriff

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office has formally charged Jason Daniel Smith, of Greer, with one count of Armed Robbery and one count of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Deputies state that Smith did enter Arthur State Bank located at 1781
Woodruff Road, armed with a weapon, on August 24, 2010 and demanded
money from the bank teller. Smith left the bank with an undisclosed
amount of money.

Investigators had previously charged a subject, Dane Kelley, with the
offense but the case remained open as they spent numerous man hours
trying to determine whether they had the right person. Originally
Investigators had enough evidence which was presented to the Solicitor’s
Office prior to warrants being issued on Kelley. Fortunately, the
Investigators assigned to the case continued obtaining evidence which
led to the charges being dropped against Kelley and now charges filed on
Smith.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office worked closely with Mauldin Police
Department to obtain the evidence which led to this arrest of Smith.
Smith was already in the Greenville County Detention on unrelated
charges.
