K-9 Bulletproof Vest Donation/Presentation

On Thursday March 31, 2011 the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office will hold an acceptance ceremony to officially accept the donation of bullet resistant vests for the K-9 working dogs. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office recently received 3 vests for the dogs used by the sheriff’s office and Sheriff Van Duncan is inviting everyone to join him in recognizing and thanking those responsible for the gift. The vests were donated through the help of the Mimi Paige Foundation and Alan Sheppard who is the owner of Alan’s Jewelry and Pawn.

Ellen Frost stated “The foundation wanted to reach out to the unsung heroes at the Sheriff’s department. Ordinarily we only use our funds for education but Alan’s gave us this extraordinary donation and we wanted to do something very special for our community. The dogs and handlers represent to us the epitome of the animal human connection. We want to celebrate and protect them.”

Three vests were purchased for the K-9’s at a cost of about $6500.00.
