On Saturday, 10/08, Officers responded to Eagles Lane in the Moore community of Spartanburg County in reference to a missing adult. Upon arrival, officers met with complainant, Ronnie, who stated that his handicapped son, Michael, who is visiting from Kannapolis, NC, was missing. Ronnie states that Michael is blind from a prior injury and has been blind for approximately 10 years. Ronnie stated that Michael takes klonopin for anxiety, but has not taken the medication today. Ronnie said that Michael was walking around the front yard talking on the telephone when Ronnie returned home from the store. Shortly after, Ronnie noticed that Michael was missing.

Michael Hayes

Ronnie states that he drove around looking for Michael with negative results, and then called for police response. Deputies searched the interior of the home, all vehicles, and storage buildings. Afterwards, deputies secured a scent article and deployed a bloodhound for a track. When the track was completed, there were no traces of Michael. After speaking with Ronnie further, he states that just before he noticed Michael was missing, a car had driven down their road with the headlights on, and then came back up the road with only the parking lights on.

If you have any idea of Michael’s whereabouts, please contact the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department.

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are seeking help from citizens in locating a 71-year-old woman who was reported missing from her home in the St. Andrews community on Thursday, June 30. Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives are concerned about the well-being of Norma Melton Smith, 71, who lives at Woodland Village Apartments at 848 Beacon Hill Road, because Smith has a medical condition that can cause her to become disoriented.
Deputies entered Smith as a missing person on the National Crime Information Center computer database. Smith is 5-foot-6 and weighs 160 pounds, Metts said. Smith has white hair and brown eyes. Smith might be driving a 2005 light-brown Chevrolet Uplander sport-utility vehicle, with South Carolina license plate CUP 667. Smith owns the vehicle, which is missing from her home.

Deputies arrived at Smith’s home at 11:04 p.m. on Thursday after Kim Faulkner, Smith’s daughter, reported her mother was missing, Metts said. Faulkner told deputies she last saw her mother at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28 and last spoke with her by telephone at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29. Smith has a cellular telephone, but Smith left the cell phone at her home. Metts asked anyone with information about Smith or her whereabouts to call the Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

Click the link to view her photo. Please let someone know if you may have seen her. NMSMITH PHOTO

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your assistance is located a missing person whose family is concerned about his well being.

William Thomas Bowie, 33, of 246 Point Circle Road, Prosperity, SC was last seen on June 1, 2011 at about 5:30PM, when he left saying that he was going into Prosperity to play basketball. Bowie contacted his mother at about 11:30 and then shortly thereafter let her know that he had let someone borrow his car.

On June 2, 2011, at around 7:50AM Bowie sent two text messages to his family that caused the family great concern for Bowie’s well being. The messages are too personal to release; however, they certainly contain language that led them to believe that Bowie may harm himself.

Bowie is described as a white male, 5’09” to 5’10” tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He has blond hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a peach colored polo style shirt and blue jean pants.

Bowie often goes by the name Billy.

He was driving a 2002 Pewter color Chevrolet Trailblazer with South Carolina Plates HFH519. It is not clear if he is still driving the vehicle.

If you have any information about this case, please contact the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 321-2222 or www.newberrycountysheriff.com.

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are seeking help from citizens in locating a 43-year-old Chapin man who was last seen at his parents’ home on Skylark Lane near Chapin on May 7.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives are concerned about the well-being of John Henry Mayers, 43, of 210 Skylark Lane, Chapin, because Mayers’ parents and other relatives told detectives that it is out of character for Mayers to remain out of contact with his relatives for a prolonged period of time. Detectives have entered Mayers as a missing person on the National Crime Information Center computer database.

Mayers is 5-foot-10 and weighs 240 pounds, Metts said. Mayers has black hair, brown eyes and a scar that extends from his left ear to his forehead. Mayers was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and dark blue pants.

Mayers’ father, Charles Mayers, reported John Mayers missing to the Sheriff’s Department on May 10, Metts said. Charles Mayers, 72, told a deputy that his son left home at about 9:30 a.m. on May 7 in order to travel to a rehabilitation program, where John Mayers intended to seek treatment for his crack cocaine addiction. Charles Mayers told a deputy that his son left home on foot in order to seek a ride to the drug rehabilitation program.
The Sheriff’s Department has conducted several searches for John Mayers, including aerial searches using the agency’s helicopter, Metts said. The Sheriff’s Department coordinated aerial and ground searches with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office because Skylark Lane is close to Lexington County’s border with Newberry County.

Metts asked anyone with information about John Mayers or his whereabouts to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

On May 5, 20117, at approximately 1925 hours, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office responded to Trenholm Drive, James Island, in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival deputies met with a complainant who advised there had been several people fighting at a party. The complainant identified a person named “Grace” as causing the disturbance and that she was wanted by the police. Deputies located “Grace” hiding in the bushes behind the residence. Upon seeking her identification it was learned that subject “Grace” was actually Savannah Grace Woods who was listed as a runaway through Charleston City Police Department.

Deputies noted that Woods appeared unsteady on her feet and appeared intoxicated. Woods was argumentative and refused to cooperate with deputies. A pick-up order was confirmed and Woods was taken into custody. Woods continued to be disorderly cursing and kicking deputies and others in the area. While attempting to secure Woods in the deputy’s’ cruiser Woods head butted the deputy several times causing the deputies tooth to break, minor cuts to the deputies lip, and minor swelling to the head from the head butt.
