Two Charged in Newberry Shooting

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your assistance in locating a man they say shot three people in a drive y shooting that occurred in the Helena community early last Thursday, July 22. Deputies said that three people were standing in a yard on Gray Street in Helena when a van came into the area and according to witnesses began firing at the people standing in the yard. Three people were struck by the bullets.  All of the injuries were to the lower extremities and none of the injuries were life threatening.  According to investigators, all of those shot were shot indiscriminately and not victims or targeted violence. A short time later, deputies responded to a call and discovered a van matching the description of that used in the shooting abandoned in a ditch near to the shooting. Based on their investigation, investigators have identified two suspects who were responsible for the shooting.  After meeting with Eighth Circuit Solicitor Jerry Peace and his staff, investigators issued warrants for the two men charging each with three counts of Attempted Murder.  They identified the suspects as: Michael Dewayne Wise, 25, of 201 Church Street, Prosperity, SC.  Michael Wise remains at large.  Anyone with any information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact law enforcement immediately. He should be considered armed and dangerous at this time.  Anthony Tyrone Wise, 21, also of 201 Church Street, Prosperity, SC.  Anthony Wise surrendered himself to law enforcement officers this morning.  No time for a bond hearing has been set as of this release. The two men are cousins. Investigators say that it does not appear anyone else was involved in the shooting  at this time, which appears to motivated as retaliatory to a previous shooting incident in Newberry City.
