Spartanburg Man Arrested for Kidnapping
Deputies responded to Cannon’s Campground Road for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, no one would answer the door. Eventually Ashley Wrenix came to the door. He stated there was no disturbance, and he was the only one home. He stated his girlfriend, Veronica Wilson, was at work. Deputies requested permission to check the interior of the residence, but he refused. The communication center had received another call from Veronica who stated that she was inside the residence, hurt, and being held against her will. Due to the exigent circumstances, Mr. Wrenix was handcuffed and placed in investigative detention. While handcuffing the subject, blood was discovered on his hands. As deputies entered the residence, Mr. Wrenix spontaneously stated, “Ok, she’s inside”. Upon entering the residence, Veronica was discovered in the rear bedroom. Her mouth was bloody and there was also blood on the sleeve of her jacket. Ms. Wilson stated that she and Mr. Wrenix had been dating for four months and lived together at the Cannon’s Campground residence. She stated that she wanted to end the relationship and was in the process of moving out. Ms. Wilson stated that the previous night she’d stayed with friends. She and one of those friends went to lunch at McDonald’s and upon returning to the residence, Wrenix jumped out from behind a bush and grabbed Ms. Wilson. He attempted to abduct her, but she resisted. He then punched her in the mouth and she submitted to his force. He covered her mouth and forced her up the street to Cannon’s Campground road. While in transit, Wilson claimed that Wrenix stated several times that he was going to kill her and dump her body. Once back at the residence, Wilson was forced into a back bedroom. From this location she was able to call 911. The vehicle used in the alleged kidnapping was observed parked in the driveway. A visual inspection of the vehicle revealed blood in plain view on the driver’s side console.
Units responded to the scene and arrested Wrenix, who was transported to the Spartanburg County Detention Center Facility. A search warrant was executed on the residence and the suspect’s vehicle.
After being transported to the hospital, Wilson left prior to receiving treatment. She was later located at a relative’s residence and was interviewed by an investigator and gave a written statement. During this time, she stated that she was currently pregnant and believed that this incident had caused her to miscarry. She was urged to return to the hospital but refused EMS.
