Juvenile Charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct

On September 5, 2012 a report was filed with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office regarding illegal sexual contact on the part of a 14 year old male juvenile toward the complainant’s 8 year old daughter. An investigation into these allegations was conducted by an Investigator assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit. Upon completion of the investigation the juvenile suspect was taken into custody and charged with one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor 1st Degree. He was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Columbia, SC where he remains until the arrangements for his release to home detention can be completed.
Why is it that a 14 year old can be prosecuted as an adult in a murder, but when the same boy commits a sex offense he is prosecuted as a child?
If he killed the girl would his consequences be less severe?
Maybe, just maybe this boy has become confused about life and needs some help growing up.
Oh well throw him in prison with dope fiends and the like, then put his picture on jailbirds and feel so damn good about yourself.
