Columbia Woman Attacked Loading Groceries in Car
According to Sheriff Meets, Ms. Linda Sarvis Canady, a 64 year old female of Tara
Trail, Columbia, was bagging her groceries to take them to her car. The suspect helped Ms.
Canady shop and bag the groceries. She also offered to help load the groceries in the victim’s
car. Ms. Canady got in the driver’s seat of the car and started the car to provide air
conditioning. The suspect then hit the victim in the forehead with a can she had taken from the
grocery bags and ran toward Landmark Apartments with the victim’s wallet.
Investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department have arrested Whitney
Deandra Wilson, a black female, 21, of Forest Grove Lane, Columbia with Strong Armed Robbery and 1st Degree Assault. Investigators were able to take still
pictures from the Food Lion video and show them to area businesses and identify Ms. Wilson. Ms. Wilson gave investigators a statement about the incident. Sheriff Metts stated, “This is an excellent example of how successful cooperation between the public can be. The cooperation of Food Lion and other area businesses were essential in the capture of Ms. Wilson.”
